Supercharged Mercedes AMG's tend to overheat under hot weather or extreme driving conditions. If you increase boost or horsepower, expect your intake charge temp to rise even further. This heat exchanger will significantly reduce intake charge temps allowing you to keep power when needed.
The Private Label MFG Power Driven heat exchangers use non epoxied furnace brazed cores resulting in better heat dissipation and are welded with CNC precision machined billet aluminum necks. It has a 2. If you have a boosted MB with additional horsepower than stock, you should maintain lower intake charge temperatures.

In the first part of the build, I installed a larger front mounted heat exchanger, and in this video we complete the system with a larger VRP Superflo coolant pumpand an awesome looking VRP Ice tank placed under the hood.
I start off with the tank that mounts in the same location as the factory cabin filter housing. This means the cabin filter needs to go. I still wanted some kind of air filtration so I installed a small filter and screen directly to the fire wall opening.
With the the cabin filter housing and bracket out of the way, I could now mount the tank. After about an hour of trimming the plastic bracket on the firewall that holds the new cabin filter, I was able to get the tank to sit low enough for hood closure.
Next up was mounting a massive VRP Superflo coolant pump. This goes behind the bumper on the right side next to the heat exchanger. I then proceeded to wire the pump directly to a key-on ignition source and found that the previous owner had already done that for me.
It basically replaces a factory fuse with a fuse holder. With the pump, wiring and tank installs finished, I just needed to connect all the hoses and I was done.
It took more than I expected to bleed all the air out of the system. I had to lower the heat exchanger and raise the back of the tank to get it completely filled with no air pockets. In the end, turning on the key started the pump right up, and the flow into the tank is just something you need to see for yourself.

Any supercharged engine will have increased IATs due to the compression of the charge, but the MK engine suffers more than others because of the size and placement of the intercooler.
Heat soak is all but guaranteed after each high speed run. Things get especially bad at the dragstrip because the car spends a lot of time in the staging lanes with no airflow over the heat exchanger, effectively rendering it useless until you start a pass. There are various ways of dealing with this issue, such as a larger heat exchanger, larger circulation pumps, or methanol injection. The KC evaporator is very effective at cooling the water as it passes over the core.
This allows for lower than ambient intake air temps. With such low temperatures, the water coming out of the intercooler is usually still below ambient, so running it through a heat exchanger will only add more heat back into the water.
You can avoid this by bypassing the heat exchanger with a valve, or removing it completely. I chose a different location because my car already had the airmatic suspension removed.
With no air suspension, I mounted the KC where the factory airmatic pump used to live. I also removed the secondary air injection pump and coded it out in STAR.
That leaves plenty of space to mount the Killer Chiler, and it turns out to be a fantastic location as well. I replaced one of the 90 degree bends that came with the KC with a straight fitting and everything just fell into place.
The KC does a great job of cooling the intercooler water, but there is a problem under full-throttle. To get around that problem, it is common to put a tank in the circuit so you have a buffer of cold water to use during an extended pull. This made everything line up nicely and the install was simple. I also included bleed and drain ports and wrapped the whole thing in self-adhesive neoprene insulation. View all posts by Joe Ernst.

Dubbed the MK K stands for Kompressorthis engine produced anywhere from horsepower to horsepower depending on the production year and model it was in. Let's take a moment to talk about how a supercharger system works.
A supercharger is simply an air compressor that raises the density of air before it makes its way to the combustion chamber of your engine. With a higher density of air, you can introduce more fuel; with more air and more fuel, you create more power. However, a higher density of air is where that glaring issue stems from. When air is compressed, you are adding additional molecules into the same volume of space, which, in turn, means that those molecules must move more rapidly.
The byproduct of the rapid molecular movement is heat. So, how does this affect the MK you might now be wondering?
The ECU in the Mercedes-AMG is constantly monitoring the intake temperature, as abnormally hot air isn't ideal for controlled combustion. When the ECU senses temperatures outside of its controlled range, it modifies the ignition maps that retard timing and reduce boost pressure, all of which leads to a reduction in power output. Depending on the age and health of the supporting systems, recovery times between the throttling of power can be lengthy. Luckily, there are three modifications on the market that we recommend installing in street-driven Mercedes-AMG models with the MK that allows the engine to deliver the rated horsepower output consistently.
If you're planning to have your car out on track, additional modifications will be required that are beyond the scope of this article. The modifications can be broken up into three different levels or "stages. The intercooler pump is responsible for moving coolant through a circuit that includes a heat exchanger and a charge air cooler.
The pump circulates the coolant from the heat exchanger at the front of the car to the charge air cooler in the valley of the engine. This removes heat from the compressed air. When the intercooler pump is unable to move a sufficient volume of fluid, this results in higher air intake temperatures and lower power output.
To combat this, we recommend the Bosch intercooler pump as it's the first step in keeping those intake temperatures at bay. The Bosch is the latest iteration of the factory pump and is used in all contemporary Mercedes-AMG vehicles. On the Mercedes-AMG cars featuring the MK, the supercharger cooling circuit is shared with the engine's cooling circuit. The supercharging cooling circuit consists of an air-to-water intercooler that sits in the engine's valley, below the supercharger, as well as a front-mounted heat exchanger.
This fluid is stored in the engine's coolant expansion tank and is moved between the two radiators by the circulation pump. However, in hotter regions, or if you're someone who regularly enjoys spirited drives, segmenting the engine's cooling circuit from the supercharger's cooling circuit is the next step in lowering recovery times and keeping those temperatures stable.
On the factory coolant expansion tank, there's a tee that allows the supercharger cooling system to share fluid with the engine. The first step is to remove this connection and add an independent reservoir for the supercharger.
This affords you the control of the amount of fluid in the system as well as the specific type of coolant you'd like to run for each system. All of this modification makes the engine and supercharger cooling systems more efficient overall. We offer a pre-packaged kit which was designed in-house by VRP Speed. The kit includes a reservoir, mounting bracket, cooling hoses, and all of the necessary clamps.
This heat exchanger provides more surface area for heat transfer to occur and utilizes all of the space at the front of the vehicle. It does this without impacting the performance of the other heat exchangers in the system. The Killer Chiller system is a refrigerated heat exchanger that lowers the vehicles charge temps below ambient and allows your vehicle to maintain full power.
It keeps the computer from pulling timing and stops power fade due to heat soak. Using a 30 plate stainless steel construction it is pressure rated to just over twice the vehicles AC operating pressures. We also have standalone systems using a V AC compressor that runs off your 12V system. Kincaid Performance has been in business making active cooling systems since Who Is It For?

Model — Manufacturers use the same engine in multiple model vehicles and often times they are in a different state of tune, for example: C63 and a CLK Black Series.
Both have the same engine, but the C63 has hp while the CLK63 has hp. Naturally the C63 will show more gains as it starts at a lower level.
The engines remain largely unaltered and as a result, final tuned output remains the same, while the gains are lower as the starting point is now higher. Top tier brand premium fuels should always be used to achieve the best results possible.
Drivetrain — All wheel drive has higher drivetrain losses than rear wheel drive. This results in lower numbers when testing on a chassis dyno.
Heat, high humidity, and thin air will all work towards reducing engine output. Engine Health — Higher miles tends to result in increased build up and lower compression which can and will impact engine output.
Properly maintained engines will have better performance than abused or neglected engines. Supporting modifications — The highest power levels require supporting modifications.
